Do you long for a life free of troubles? If you are like me, you want to shout, “Yes! No more troubles!” Many people are told if they will just accept Jesus as their Savior, all their troubles will be over. But I ask you, “Did Jesus have troubles?” Yes, He did.
Right after Jesus was baptized, the Spirit (God) led Him into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. There he endured hunger and thirst for forty days. Afterwards He wrestling with Satan as to whether He would do His ministry God’s way, which would be very painful and difficult, or Satan’s way. This was right after His obedience to God in baptism. It was right after the Spirit came down on Him. And, it was right after God gave Him His loving endorsement as, “My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.”
Thus, even though Jesus was walking in obedience to God, had the fullness of the Spirit, and the endorsement of God, He was not exempt from temptation and trouble. And neither are we. Even if we are walking closely with God. If fact, in John 16:33 Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
If Jesus said we will have trouble, then how do we deal with it? He gave us the secret in that verse. Because He lived perfectly, and overcame everything life threw at Him perfectly, He can help us deal with the issues of this life successfully.
How do we deal with life’s troubles successfully? It is through a relationship with Jesus. As we talk and listen to Him, He guides us through His Spirit and His Word, the Bible. He offers us His loving presence. He gives us His comfort. And, He gives us wise direction. We just have to listen, trust, and be obedient.
Since we will have trouble and temptations, how will we choose to deal with them? Will we blame God and others, or will we allow these troubles to draw us to Him so that we may mature into a peaceful child of God? He has graciously given us the way to successfully deal with troubles; to live with them or overcome them. It is through an intimate relationship with Him. Won’t you turn to Him today?
