God is ruling now, even in the midst of His enemies (Psalm 110:2) We think that because He is ruling now, everything should be perfect; no evil, no pain, no suffering. But God is ruling now, and at the present time He is allowing His enemies to follow their desires. The outworking of their desires is pain, evil and suffering in the world.
Will God continue to rule this way? No. Jesus explained this in the parable of the weeds, or tares (Matthew 13:24-43). He said that at the present time both evil and good must reside together. Later, at the judgment, evil will be eradicated.
How does this affect us today? We need to realize that we live in the midst of an evil generation. Jesus confirmed this in John 16:33. Yet He also said that He has overcome the world, and because He has, we can also. Through the power of God’s Spirit working within us, we may receive God’s wisdom and His power to help and guide us through our troubles and pain. We can, in a sense, “reign with Christ in the midst of our enemies.” Let us turn to Him and receive His power so that we can be overcomers in the midst of an evil and difficult generation
