Have you ever wondered if God cares about the tiny, insignificant details of your life? The things that are so small you wonder if you should even bother God with them?
I believe God cares about every tiny detail. Let me share one reason for that belief with a story about onions.
In the early years of our marriage, my husband served as a pastor in a rural setting with a “just adequate” salary. I taught piano and voice to help supplement our income. One year we had many unexpected expenses that squeezed every penny from our budget. My piano money was all we had for food. Then summer came with no piano income. After stressing and wrestling with God about how I was going to feed my family, I finally came to the point of rest and peace, knowing that somehow God would provide. I set about to do all I could, and trusted God for the rest.
At one point we were very low on onions. I was debating if I should spend a little money for a few more. While debating, I said to God, “You know it would sure be nice if we could have some onions.” I thought nothing more about my quick prayer. The next day an acquaintance unexpectedly showed up at our front door. She had gone to Washington State and wondered if we wanted a 10 pound bag of Walla Walla sweet onions!
Thirty years later we had another time of an unexpected drop in our income. Again we were low on onions and I wondered if I should spend the money on them. We went to our weekly Bible study and the group leader had a sack of Idaho onions for each person in the study!
Each time our onions got low over that next two year period, God supplied through an unexpected gift. So, don’t ever think that God doesn’t care about the tiniest details of your life. He cares about everything– even something as small as supplying an onion!
Praying God’s peace and provision in your life,
Lisa
