Do you love music? I sure do! It can so perfectly express our thoughts and feelings.
Right now I am thinking of a little song I learned as a child. It is such a simple song, and yet expresses such a great truth. This song originated from something Jesus said. While talking to a crowd of people, Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it” (Matthew 7:24-28). You may have sung this song. It’s entitled The Wise Man and the Foolish Man.
Though this is just a fun children’s song, the truth expressed is so crucial for life. If we know what Jesus wants us to do, but don’t do it, we are very foolish. When the storms of life hit (and they will), they will knock us flat. However, if we build our life on Jesus and do as He instructs, when the storms of life hit (and they will), we will still be standing. Why? The foundation for our life will be the unshakeable rock of Jesus Christ.
How does He become our rock? First we need to ask Him to forgive our sins and be our Lord and Savior. Next, we need to do as He asks. How will we know what He wants of us? He has given us His Word, the Bible. If we read it regularly and listen to the leading of His Spirit, which He gives us when we become His child, then we will know what He wants. As we do it, He will be there to sustain and guide us through all of life. He will give us the spiritual, mental, physical and emotional stability to stand in the storms of life. Won’t you be wise and choose Him as your Savior, Lord and guide?
