Psalm 19:1-6
Psalm 19 begins with, “The heavens declare the glory of God …There is no speech, nor words, yet their voice goes out through all the earth.” (KJV/RSV) What are the heavens trying to tell us? I think as we look at the heavens, we will realize they are declaring a number of things about God.
The heavens show us that God has a great creative imagination. Who else could conceive of millions of galaxies, suns, moons, planets, stars, cloud formations, thunder, lightning, hail, snow and rain?
God has unfathomable power. Who else could create all these galaxies, suns, moons, planets and stars with a single word, and place and hold them in their orbits in space for thousands of years?
God loves order. The sun “rises” each morning and the moon “comes out” each evening. The stars accompany the moon, each in its designated place. As the axis on the earth tips, the seasons regularly change. They bring a time for planting, for growth, for harvest and for rest. This supplies food for all the creatures on the earth.
God loves beauty, variety, and yet stability. This can be seen in the dazzling sunrises and sunsets with their myriad of colors and cloud formations.
All these tell us of a powerful, creative God who loves order and who thoughtfully provided for all the needs of His creation. His creation is one of order and stability. How about our lives? Are they stable and orderly? I think most are not. Why is that? It’s because we have left the way of this orderly, stable and loving God. The result is chaos and pain. Yet God provided a way for us to return to Him through asking Him to forgive us and become the Lord of our lives. When we do, He offers to work with us so that our lives slowly become orderly and stable. Wouldn’t you like that for your life? Ask Him to be your Lord and Savior. Then trustingly learn to follow His leading.
