My husband and I have served in a number of nice churches throughout our life. About 5 years ago we were asked to consider a new setting. After receiving God’s confirmation, we accepted the call to the Gold Hill Christian Church. We arrived to a little country church that had struggled financially for years. The building showed the struggle. The exterior was badly in need of paint. The roof sagged and needed replacing. There was no landscaping. The ceiling of the sanctuary had lose tiles, and a bar crossed the room, holding the walls in. It needed a lot of TLC, yet there was no money. Despite the bleak financial resources and physical structure, the hearts of the people were warm and loving. They were walking with Jesus.
My husband preached, and after a period of time, I was asked to be the worship leader. Slowly more people began to attend. Gradually the financial situation began to look up. We began to think about addressing the physical needs of the building. Then we were told that the roof had to be replaced. It would not last another winter. Not only did it need to replaced, so did the trusses. They were pushing the walls out. How would we pay for it? We began to pray and had some fund raisers. As a result of those prayers, a gift was given, and then God provided a very low interest loan. God has continued to provide for the payment on the loan, plus our other financial needs, even though we are not a large church.
As a result of God’s provision, we now have a new roof, new trusses, an exterior paint job, the walls stabilized, the ceiling in the sanctuary fixed, the sanctuary and foyer painted, new lighting in the sanctuary, and exterior lighting. God provided for all of this! Gold Hill Christian Church is still the same little country church, but it is structurally sound, and looks much more attractive. Is there more to do? Yes, including landscaping. But much of the building has had a wonderful makeover.
As I thought about our little church, I realized that God wants to do the same with our lives. We come to Him broken, in disrepair, with no way to overhaul ourselves. When we ask Him to forgive our sins and come into our life, He begins a makeover. This isn’t just an external makeover, but one that transforms our insides. He provides everything for the makeover! He forgives our sins and gives us Himself! From that relationship comes His constant companionship along with peace, hope, joy, and direction for life. Would you like that? If so, ask Jesus to forgive your sins and come into your life. He is the Master Makeover artist!
